President's Message

May 2010

Snowbirds are leaving, winter-damaged plants are being replaced, the days are getting longer and warmer - lots of changes. The Venice Interfaith Community Association is changing too. After four very successful years as president, Janet Onnie is able to take a breather from her intense dedication to our group and we extend our sincere thanks for her untiring efforts on our behalf. We wish her well as she begins her ministerial career. She'll be a tough act to follow.

Another change is the addition of new Board members. We are grateful to those who volunteer their time to our organization and, to use Janet's phrase, to our "beloved community." We thank both the outgoing and the incoming members for their service.

As the new Board organizes, we will further define our goals. Preserving what we have accomplished is foremost. Our goals expanded over six years to encompass, first, education and then service. We changed our description to "Faiths United in Service." After some projects such as the Grove Terrace move, we took on sponsorship of the Venice Community Dinners and, most recently, the Interfaith CO-OP - Community Outreach Organizing Program. Please read the article elsewhere on this website to learn more about the CO-OP.

Thank you for your support as we move forward in our interfaith efforts. Our group wants to continue its original goals of achieving respect, understanding and cooperation among those of different faith groups and world views. Combining those goals with "Faiths United in Service" forms the backbone of our work. Your new Board takes its stewardship very seriously and looks forward to working with the Venice area community.
